International Bag a Lunch Day

1 of every 2 kids in Guatemala does not have access to education beyond the 6th grade. Before Lan Vwa, Nora walked 3 hours to go to school in another village. After 9th grade, there was no where for her to complete high school. That is until Lan Vwa stepped in. In January 2015, we began offering grades 7th thru 11th, accredited by the department of education in Guatemala. Nora graduated from high school on October 29, 2016. She received a job offer from a local business owner before graduation day. There are thousands of girls and boys in Guatemala just like Nora, and we want to help them acheive their dreams.

How You Can Help

About the Event

International bag a lunch day is an event to raise support for Lan Vwa’s efforts to empower communities through education. It only costs $9.50 to provide one class for an entire week. That is what most people spend on just one lunch. We realized that if we can make those lunches in the office count together we could impact thousands of student. During the month of September, we’ll be delivering lunches to participating businesses with a goal to provide 1,000 weeks of classes to our students.

The Impact
  • Children who are born to educated mothers are less likely to be stunted or malnourished. Each additional year of maternal education also reduces the child mortality rate by 2 percent.
  • In Latin America, children whose mothers have some secondary schooling remain in school for two to three more years than children of mothers with less schooling.
  • 1 extra year of schooling increases an individual’s income by 10%.
We keep it simple, so you can make a difference.
